There are many reasons for choosing online a lower cost pair of reading glasses, your reasons may differ but consider these;

Cost

Cheap reading glasses are available in department stores and even some convenience stores for around $15. Online you can get some nice looking frames for around $7 to $8.

Work Environment

If the person wearing them is going to subject the reading glasses to a fair bit of abuse due to the work environment, one may consider a cheap pair. It does not make much sense to purchase a higher cost pair if the person will be working in harsh environments were they could be subject to a fair amount of damage. Compare the cheaper pair to an alternative with the higher cost Flexon frames which can take a great deal of abuse but are priced around $100 per pair. It may be more wise to go with the cheaper pair and replace them as needed.

You do pretty much get what you pay for when you opt for a lower cost pair of reading glasses. Expect the comfort level to be perhaps lower then with more expensive glasses. The durability will be not as good and you may end up replacing them on a more frequent basis. But given these few exceptions paying less then $10 for a pair of reading glasses can be a good choice for many.

Reading glasses will help you focus on objects that are close to you. They are not intended to replace existing corrective lenses and do not work togeher with normal prescription glasses. They are intended to be worn either with the naked eye or combined with corrective contact lenses. Consult with your eye doctor if you have any questions or concerns.

What causes us to have to wear reading glasses?

Having to wear reading glasses is a normal process in all of us. It is the natural process of growing older. As we grow older the muscles in our eyes lose their elasticity. This causes us to lose our ability to focus on objects that are close to us. The condition is known as Presbyopia. It will normally start to show up around the age of 40.

What about Lasik or Contact Lenses?

If you have Lasik surgery you will still need reading glasses at about the same time as those who don’t. Lasik takes care of near and far sightedness but there is nothing that can be done for Prebyopia.

Contact lens wearers commonly wear reading glasses with their contacts. Some new advances in contact lenses allow for some people to get fitted with contacts that will eliminate the need for reading glasses. This cannot be done for everybody however. You must be fortunate that you have the exact same prescription in both eyes and that you have no Astigmatism. This issue eliminates about 70% of contact lens users.
